Introduction

Peter Hain awarding Jeff Williams with a prize.

Warm Wales - Cymru Gynnes Buddiant Cymunedol is a community interest and 'not for profit' organisation, set up to deliver fuel poverty and associated programmes in Wales. The organisation is owned by its members. We aim to alleviate fuel poverty in Welsh homes by delivering dedicated programmes of work.

Fuel poverty occurs where any householder would need to spend 10% or more of their household budget on home energy bills, to keep the home warm and to make it a healthy place to live.

Bringing warm homes to Neath Port Talbot was the first Welsh programme which began in September 2004. The scheme aimed to reduce the number of people in fuel poverty in the county by providing energy efficiency measures and benefits advice. Other programmes have followed.

A key feature of all Warm Wales schemes is strong collaboration between all partners. Principal partners include local authorities, major utility companies such as National Grid through its Affordable Warmth Programme and Npower, the Welsh Assembly Government, the emergency services and local voluntary services councils.
